Foods That Lead To Flawless Skin

Foods that lead to flawless skin

Choosing the right foods to eat can get you flawless skin in no time. Below is a list of foods that will get you that radiant skin simply by adding them into your daily diet.

    • Eggs: High in protein and little fat — Eggs also contain Vitamin A which helps reduce dry skin, wrinkles, and brown spots. Try to avoid fatty foods because they can cause your skin to age.
    • Almond Milk: Research has shown that dairy can aggravate acne, rashes, and wrinkles. Almond milk is a great alternative for your skin.
    • Oatmeal: To achieve healthy skin stay away from refined, sugary carbs because they produce more oil that can get trapped underneath your pores, causing pimples to form. For a low-sugar oatmeal try adding fruits or natural sweeteners such as honey.

Skin foods

  • Spinach: Contains Vitamin C and helps with skin cell growth. Spinach has a high water content which helps you feel full faster and aids your skin into looking plump and fresh.
  • Strawberries: They’re sweet, delicious, and amazing for your skin. Strawberries also contain Vitamin C which aids in fighting radicals that damage your skin cells and collagen, which can lead to wrinkles. Add strawberries to a spinach salad to give your skin that extra boost it needs.
  • Ground Turkey: This lean protein provides skin with the building blocks for collagen and elastin, the fibers that help skin look firm and wrinkle free. Research also shows that the levels of zinc and niacin in ground turkey may also help treat inflammatory acne. Research also shows that the levels of zinc and niacin in ground turkey may also help treat inflammatory acne.

  • Wild Salmon: Salmon is considered a super food because it does wonders for skin. Wild salmon contains omega-3 fatty acids that help your skin stay moisturized. Keeping your skin moisturized is one of the most important things you can do for your skin.
  • Shrimp: These tiny shellfish have big nutrition benefits. They contain a potent antioxidant (it’s what gives them their pink color), and they contain omega-3s for additional antioxidant power. Shrimp contain zinc which is an excellent anti-inflammatory that scientists have found can help reduce acne breakouts.
  • Sweet Potatoes: They don’t need to be eaten only on Thanksgiving! This root vegetable carries an antioxidant called beta-carotene which aids in preventing fine lines and wrinkles. In addition to its antioxidant benefits, beta-carotene helps to encourage skin cell turnover, so the skin’s surface looks smooth and fresh.
  • Olive Oil: This delicious oil is a crucial ingredient for healthy skin and helps fight oxidative damage (from the sun or pollution) and prevents inflammation, one of the main causes of premature aging. Research shows that increased olive oil consumption helps hydrate your skin from the inside. Extra virgin olive oil is the healthiest so throw out your vegetable and canola oil and start using olive oil instead.

  • Grapes, blueberries, blackberries and peanuts: They all contain an ingredient called resveratrol which is a polyphonic compound that reduces the production of damaging free radicals and helps retard the development and growth of skin cancer tumors.
  • Cherries: The chemicals in this tart fruit can help inhibit pigmentation and contain a hormone linked to slowing the aging process.
  • Green Tea: This potent drink is an antioxidant powerhouse that offers protection against damage like UV rays and helps prevent damage that can lead to cancer. Sipping green tea helps your skin repair itself and help fights premature aging. Green tea extracts are derived from the Camellia sinensis plant. Green tea contains a number of powerful polyphenols, one of which is called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This ingredient helps correct cellular changes caused by damaging UV rays and causes carcinogenic skin cells to degrade.

How to Boost Your Metabolism

How to Boost Your Metabolism and Feel Great Doing It

As we age there are hormonal changes that take place in our body that affect the way we store fat and lose fat. Our metabolic rate decreases because of these differences in hormones. We also lose muscle mass as we age which alters how much energy our body’s burn. Less muscle mass means our bodies will burn fewer calories at rest. Being physically active, taking care of your body, and making healthy food choices can keep your metabolism working faster for longer. Here are some great ways to boost your metabolism so your body can burn the maximum calories possible.

  • Drink green tea

Drinking green tea between meals helps to curb your appetite. Green tea is loaded with epigallocatechin-3-gallate, a phytonutrient that helps in boosting fat metabolism, reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and obesity. Green tea is a zero calorie drink and you can add ginger, honey, lemon, cinnamon, mint, clove, etc. to give your tea a different flavor every day.

  • Eat the yolk

If you want to improve your metabolic rate then you should consume the whole egg. Egg yolks are rich in essential fatty acids, fat-soluble vitamins, and choline which regulate the gene responsible for fat storage in your liver. Consuming whole eggs also increases the plasma HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) levels. You can have one or two whole eggs per day without raising the cholesterol levels too high.

  • Eat lean protein

When it comes to increasing your metabolic rate, it is critical that you eat lean protein with each meal. It’s a false notion that consuming protein can lead to fat gain. Protein is food for yourBoost your Metabolism muscles and eating protein along with regular exercise will build lean muscle mass and reduce body fat. Proteins are difficult to digest and help to keep you feeling full for longer time periods. Proteins also increase metabolic rate up to 35 percent. Consume lean protein sources such as fish, chicken breast, ground turkey, lean cuts of beef, soy, mushroom, tofu, legumes, beans, eggs, etc.

  • Eat your veggies and fruit

Fruits and veggies are loaded with dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals, and other phytonutrients that help to detoxify the body, suppress hunger, improve bowel movement, prevent cardiovascular diseases, and also increase the metabolic rate. Include green leafy and colorful veggies such as Chinese cabbage, spinach, kale, rocket spinach, cabbage, bok choy, celery, broccoli, tomato, bell pepper, beetroot, carrot, cauliflower, sweet potato, eggplant, etc. For your fruits try to include prunes, pear, apple, orange, tangerine, grapefruit, plum, lemon, pineapple, banana, avocado, black grape, blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, etc.

  • Consume vitamin D foods

Vitamin D promotes proper cell division, cell growth, and development. When all the cells function properly our metabolism stays on track and doesn’t slow down due to faulty cell function. Include foods such as sardine, salmon, eggs, milk, shrimp, and cod.

  • Consume yogurt

Yogurt is loaded with good gut bacteria that aids in digestion. Scientists have also found that consuming a substantial amount of yogurt can help reduce fat deposition in the mid-section of your body. Improper digestion is often the reason for a slow metabolic rate. Therefore, consuming yogurt can help improve digestion and increase the metabolic rate. Have yogurt with fruits for dessert or just a small cup of yogurt after your lunch to boost metabolism.

  • Eat nuts

Nuts are rich in healthy fats, vitamins, and protein. Nuts improve metabolism, increases satiety, and help metabolize fat. Consume 4-6 soaked almonds in the morning with your breakfast. You can also snack on 30-35 in-shell pistachios (unsalted) or include walnuts, pine nuts, macadamia nuts, etc. in your yogurt or dark chocolate to give it an extra crunch and flavor.

  • Reduce Stress

Stress induces inflammation, high blood pressure, and insulin resistance in the body.  Inflammation leads to slowed down metabolism and as a result you will gain weight even if you starve yourself. So try to relax and spend your time doing things you actually enjoy doing.

  • Drink water when you wake up

Make it a habit of drinking at least 16 ounces of water first thing in the morning. This will help flush out the toxins through urine and stool and reduce inflammation.  Scientists have found that drinking 2 liters of water every day can increase metabolic rate.

  • Reduce alcohol consumption

Too much alcohol in the body causes dehydration which increases inflammation and leads to a slower metabolic rate. Once the metabolic rate slows down the calories from alcohol get stored as fat.

  • Eat Broccoli

Broccoli is rich in antioxidants that reduce oxidative stress levels. It is a low calorie vegetable loaded with vitamins and minerals and is a great source of fiber. Broccoli is also anti-cancerous and improves heart health.

  • Consume extra virgin olive oil

This low-calorie healthy fat adds flavor to your food without making you gain weight and helps to prevent damage to the body’s cells. This, in turn, increases your metabolic rate and helps to burn the calories. Use olive oil to sauté, stir-fry, or to make a salad dressing.

  • Don’t skip breakfast

Skipping breakfast means not giving your brain the signal to restart itself. This slows down the brain which directly impacts your metabolic rate. Wake up your brain by having breakfast in the morning and try to include a source of lean protein, fiber, and healthy fats to start your day.

  • Eat every 3 hours

Not eating enough can also slow down your metabolism. When you don’t eat your body goes into starvation mode and your brain signals the body to store all the calories. Therefore, your metabolism slows down and you start gaining weight instead of losing it. Eat healthy every 2-4 hours to keep your body from shifting to starvation mode.

  • Eat healthy snacks

You can snack on yogurt, pistachios, almonds, baby carrot, fruits, green tea, oolong tea, black coffee, coconut water, etc. These foods are rich in dietary fiber and phytonutrients that will help increase your metabolic rate, prevent fat absorption and keep you full for longer.

  • Eat whole grains

Whole grains are rich in fiber and helps boost glucose metabolism, improves insulin sensitivity, and keeps you from getting hungry. Have three servings of whole grains to kick up your metabolism. Consume brown rice, barley, buckwheat, broken wheat, millet, oatmeal, etc.

  • Consume omega-3- fatty acids

Omega-3-fatty acids help to reduce inflammation in the body and improve metabolic rate. Consume fish oil, fish (with skin), flax seeds, spinach, soybean, walnut, caviar, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, and egg yolk.

  • Avoid trans fats

Trans fats are harmful and can cause cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, insulin resistance, fatty liver, etc. Scientists have found that consuming foods containing trans fats can alter how nutrients are metabolized and absorbed in the body. It causes toxic buildup and inflammation, which ultimately results in a slow metabolism. Avoid foods such as a doughnut, fries, potato wafers, deep fried chicken, batter-fried foods, frozen pizza, margarine, cake frosting, non-dairy creamers, biscuits, frozen pasta, frozen lasagne, fried crunchy noodles, etc.

  • Increase activity

The most common problem today is we all have desk jobs where we sit in one place most of the day. This slows down metabolism and stores the calories we consume as fat for later use. Try to add more activity in your day by taking the stairs, walking to and from your workplace, or at least stand up at your desk and work for a few minutes. The idea is to get moving.

  • Get enough sleep

Not sleeping enough leads to a toxic buildup in the body which results in inflammation and slow metabolic rate. Lack of sleep is closely related to weight gain. Make sure you get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every day.

Erectile Dysfunction Options

Erectile Dysfunction affects 10 percent of men per decade, according to University of Wisconsin – Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. This means that men in their 40s have a 40 percent chance of experiencing some form of Erectile Dysfunction, or ED. Likewise, men in their 50s and 60s have a 50 percent and 60 percent, respectively, of experiencing a mild to moderate form of erectile dysfunction.

Regardless of age though, no man likes living with the realities of Erectile Dysfunction. But few are willing to speak up when the problems arise in order to find a solution.

Because ED isn’t an issue men are likely to discuss over lunch breaks in the workplace, many men dismiss it as a normal symptom of aging and never take action to prevent or overcome it. The real tragedy is that erectile and sexual dysfunctions are so easily treatable today, which means so many men are suffering in silence when there may be no need to suffer at all.

There are two solutions, namely GAINSWave and the P-Shot, that are highly effective, non-invasive Erectile Dysfunction treatments are  are real ED options for men today.

The GAINSWave treatment involves the use of high-frequency acoustical sound waves to improve overall sexual wellness. The sound waves serve to open blood vessels that supply the flow of blood into the penis by shaking lose plaque that may be clogging the vessels and restricting the flow. The result for men who experience difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection due to inadequate blood flow is that it can lead to a complete reversal of the erectile dysfunction.

Rather than offering a one time treatment for the symptoms of erectile dysfunction, like what happens with pills like Viagra, the GAINSWave offers a lasting solution that solves the problems causing the difficulty for a large percentage of men. In fact, 80 percent of men who received this treatment saw a reversal of their ED condition. What’s more, 86 percent of all men receiving the GAINSWave treatment report improved sexual performance!

The benefit of the GAINSWave treatment for men dealing with erectile dysfunction is that it offers a practical solution that is pain free, drug free, and doesn’t involve a long recovery process. It a great option for men who cannot take oral medications, like Viagra, or have been unhappy with the results of ED drugs. You don’t need to explain what’s going on to others either as no one will know you’re getting the treatment unless you tell them – a real win for any intensely private man.

Priapus Injections (P-Shot)

The Priapus shot, also referred to as P-Shot, is another solution to consider for erectile dysfunction that offers lasting results for erectile dysfunction problems related to a lack of sexual interest, or low libido, as well as for physiological causes of erectile dysfunction in men.

The shot uses your body’s own plasma enriched growth factors (PRP) in the injection so that your body isn’t likely to reject the treatment.

The Priapus injection, offers many benefits for men to consider, including:

  • Increased interest in sex
  • Strengthening of the penis
  • Straightening of the penis
  • Enlargement of the penis
  • Increased circulation within the penis
  • Increased sexual sensation and pleasure
  • Improved effectiveness of other therapies (such as Viagra)
  • Minimal pain (no burning, no allergic reactions)

The benefits of both treatments make them well worth checking out as potentially effective treatments to assist you in overcoming your erectile dysfunction, restoring your sexual appetite, and improving your overall sexual health.

Is Sex the Best Anti-Aging Medicine?

Is Sex the Best Anti-Aging Medicine?

Sex is fun, sex is gratifying, sex brings you closer to your partner, but did you know a good sex life may actually help you live longer?

Sex And Anti Aging

According to a recent Dutch survey, the search for the Fountain of Youth may lead right to the bedroom!

The study, conducted by the Altrecht Mental Health Center, was inspired by the recent United Kingdom sex survey which revealed seniors were having and enjoying sex in surprising numbers. The survey found that over 50% of men, and 30% of women over the age of 70 were still participating in a satisfying sex life, and 1/3 of the group overall reporting they were engaging in frequent sex, even among participants in their 80s!

The Dutch researchers decided to see if there was any correlation among longevity, ageing well, and these seniors enjoying healthy sex lives.

The researchers looked at a group of men and women between 58 and 98 who reported having frequent sexual activity, and a satisfying sex life. They then tested those individuals with a series of tests for cognition and mental acuity. The men, and particularly the women, who reported a satisfying sex life, all scored higher on the tests, than those who had less frequent sex.

Other Benefits of Sexual Activity

One reason why sexual activity may improve cognition, is because sexual activity raises testosterone. Testosterone in both men and women has been linked to improved mental function. Besides improvement in cognition and memory, there are many other anti-aging benefits to a healthy and active sex life.
Sex has been shown to:

  • Improve skin health
  • Lower the risk of heart disease
  • Lower the risk of certain cancers
  • Help remove toxins from the body
  • Boost your immune system

Improving Your Sexual Wellness

There is mounting evidence of the many physical and emotional benefits of a satisfying sex life. However, as we get older, the truth is, most men cannot perform as well as they used to, or would like to.

To a great extent, sexual function is determined by your hormones. As you grow older the levels of the key “sex hormones,” specifically, testosterone in men, decline. That loss of testosterone can lead to erectile dysfunction and decreased libido.

But the good news is, there is help available that can help you to enjoy a satisfying sex life for as long as you wish. I see men in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and older, who come to me with sexual wellness issues, and then come back after treatment weeks later telling me they are having the best sex of their lives!

Sexual wellness treatments can include diet, exercise, and other lifestyle changes, along with therapies such as hormone replacement, the P-Shot, and our latest treatment for male enhancement, the GAINSWave ™.

The P-shot is a Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment for ED. That means it uses your own blood to give you bigger, stronger and more sustainable erections. And, the growth factors and specialized healing proteins in the P-shot, not only improve your ability to get an erection, they can actually lengthen your penis!

More recently we introduced the GAINSwave™. Technology similar to the GAINSwave has been used successfully in Europe for decades. However it is very new to the U.S. In fact, we are the only ones in the Greater Savannah area currently offering this medically proven male enhancement treatment. Blood vessels in your penis break down over time. The GAINSWave™. uses high frequency acoustical waves to open up old blood vessels, and to stimulate the formation of new vessels. The resulting improved blood flow, helps any man, and not just those with ED, to obtain stronger and more sustainable erections.

These two procedures are also what we call “synergistic,” meaning that each one enhances the effect of the other. When we combine the two therapies together, we deliver a “one-two punch,” that results in a more powerful penis!

New Treatment for Men With Diabetes and ED

Men with diabetes also often have ED.

Diabetes is not a single condition. It is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by high blood glucose levels (“high blood sugar”). A man with diabetes is not producing enough insulin, or the cells of his body do not respond correctly to the presence of insulin, or both.

We refer to diabetes as a “metabolic condition” not a disease, because it effects how you “metabolize”, or draw energy, from the foods you eat.

During digestion, when the sugar, or glucose is released to provide raw energy for your cells, your pancreas releases insulin in response. Insulin is what allows the “fuel” to get into the cells where it is needed. People with diabetes either do not produce enough insulin for this to happen, or there is some problem with the mechanism. Either way, the glucose does not get into the cells where it needs to go, and instead builds up in the blood, causing the many problems associated with diabetes, such as fatigue, increased urination, excessive thirst, and increased hunger.

Because of the nature of diabetes, among its other detrimental effects, it can have a profound impact on sexual wellness in men.

Diabetes, Sexual Wellness and Erectile Dysfunction

Because diabetes effects blood circulation and nerve sensitivity, it can have a negative impact on your sexual performance. This is unfortunate, not only because of the obvious impact on your love life, but many scientific studies have shown that a healthy and active sex life, contributes to overall vitality and wellbeing.

Unfortunately, diabetes does impact sexual function. Particularly in men, diabetes is often associated with, or the cause of erectile dysfunction, or ED. ED is often a complication of diabetes. For one thing, diabetes has long term damaging effects on blood vessels and nerves. This causes reduced blood flow, and reduced sensitivity, leading to erectile dysfunction. But that is not the only problem.

ED is also often a complication of other conditions common in men with diabetes, such as high blood pressure and coronary artery disease. While there are some well-known oral medications available to treat ED, many of these cannot be taken by men with diabetes. The good news is there are some remarkable alternative treatments for men with sexual dysfunction and diabetes.

The GAINSWave™, which we have recently introduced here at Savannah Age Management Medicine, is one such treatment. Technology similar to the GAINSwave™ has been used successfully in Europe for decades. However it is very new to the U.S. In fact, we are the only ones in the Savannah area currently offering this medically proven male enhancement treatment. Blood vessels in your penis break down over time. Diabetes can make this condition worse, or occur earlier in life. The GAINSWave™ uses high frequency acoustical waves to open up old blood vessels, and to stimulate the formation of new vessels. The resulting improved blood flow, helps any man, and not just those with ED, or diabetes, to obtain stronger and more sustainable erections.

Our medical professionals and life coaches are ideally suited to help you manage the sexual issues that come with diabetes, so you can continue to live life to its fullest, in and outside of the bedroom.  Contact us today at Savannah Age Management Medicine, for a free consultation
